» N.Y. Mayor Bloomberg bans 2-liter sodas with pizza delivery
It seems like the Lefties are conducting an experiment to determine just how much tyranny the American people will tolerate. In New York City, there doesn’t seem to be a limit to what New Yorkers are willing to tolerate.
At the start of the session legislative Democrats were confident to the point of cocky about their gun control legislation. Only a few weeks later …. the issue has shifted, and fast.
What changed? Did the Colorado TyraniDems have a change of heart? … a sudden realization that their opinions on gun control were just plain stupid? No. They realized that the majority of their subjects do not support their tyrannical gun bans and are getting a wee bit pissed about it.
In other words, they believe they may have reached the outer limits of Coloradan tolerance.
Hickenlooper wouldn’t be the first Democrat to back off gun control legislation after a public backlash. Earlier this week in Minnesota, a state far more liberal than Colorado, a ban on high capacity magazines was pulled.
Have Democrats so blown their gun grab messaging that the titular head of their party in Colorado is throwing in the towel on their behalf?
Beretta is weighing whether the rifle line, and perhaps the company itself, should stay in a place increasingly hostile toward its products. Its iconic 9mm pistol — carried by every U.S. soldier and scores of police departments — would also be banned with its high capacity, 13-bullet magazine.
“Why expand in a place where the people who built the gun couldn’t buy it?” said Jeffrey Reh, general counsel for Beretta.
Concern that the company will leave, and take its 300 jobs with it, is palpable among state lawmakers who worry it could be collateral damage from Gov. Martin O’Malley’s proposed gun-control bill.
In testimony this month in Annapolis, Reh, who oversees the plant, warned lawmakers to consider carefully the company’s future. Reh pointed to the last time Maryland ratcheted up gun restrictions in the 1990s: Beretta responded by moving its warehouse operation to Virginia.
“I think they thought we were bluffing” in the 1990s, Reh said. “But Berettas don’t bluff.”
The list of gun manufacturers that have taken a stand against the state of New York has grown to 70. (as of 6:00am, 2/25/2013 )
» New York Boycott
…. it’s called the New York Boycott, but it applies to all states that have anti-gun laws. The minimum standard to be included is a pledge not to sell anything to a State or local government agency that can’t be sold to a resident of that state or locality.
“It’s an easy gun to shoot,” [Tulsa Police Sergeant Dave Walker] said of the assault rifle. “I’m not a guy who shoots a lot. My handgun scores are very marginal. But I can shoot a .223 round 100 percent at a qualifying course with that gun up to 100 yards.”
In a few short sentences, Sgt. Walker debunks at least two myths sacred to the anti-“assault weapon,” anti-armed citizen lobby. One is the supposedly vastly greater shooting proficiency of cops. A police sergeant with more than 30 years experience–a homicide detective, whose job is to catch killers–does not shoot enough to be capable of better than “very marginal” scores with a handgun.
Second is the myth that “assault weapons” are inherently inaccurate–but “too deadly” for private citizens because they “spray fire” many shots quickly (a theme the anti-gunners sound over and over again, while simultaneously referring to the murderous creatures who terrorized Washington D.C. with a Bushmaster AR-15 in 2002 as the “Beltway snipers”).
….. It may be possible to help reduce gun violence in Chicago — a city that saw over 500 homicides last year — in one simple step: Raising the minimum wage. …..
[SnarkOn]That’s it. It’s just that simple.[SnarkOff]
Shall we nevermind all the gun control crap then? Is that what they’re saying?
That was a rhetorical question, just more of my snark. Of course the leftists are not abandoning their anti-gun bigotry. They just want to add more stupid to the equation.
It’s impossible to predict how many small businesses in Chicago would be forced to close up when faced with paying out all their profits for employees they can’t afford. It is possible, however, to gauge the satisfaction of people who have the “right” to higher pay – when they don’t a job.
There has yet to be an inmate on death row who isn’t a mentally ill child who was sexually abused by his incompetent lawyers.
…Democrats say that keeping records of private sales is necessary to enforce any new law and because current federal law requires licensed firearm dealers to keep records. Records of private sales also would help law enforcement trace back the history of a gun used in a crime, according to Democratic aides. Republicans, however, believe that records of private sales could put an undue burden on gun owners or could be perceived by gun rights advocates as a precursor to a national gun registry.
Keeping records is registration, and if you can show me an example of a nation where registration didn’t lead to confiscation and the disarmament of the citizenry I’d love to see it. This is the necessary precursor for a police state, and the conditions that led to the deaths of 262 million from their own governments in the 20th Century alone.
Number of doctors in Florida: 44,804
Number of people with health insurance coverage: 15 million
Number expected in 2014, including a Medicaid expansion: 17 million to 17.5 million
Percentage of physicians expected to retire in the next five years: 5,600
Who doesn’t understand why?
Obamacare is not about health care, it’s about health care insurance – who pays for the actual health care.
The tyrants of the left insist on controlling the industry of paying for health care. In doing so, they must also insist that the product itself be cheaper. That means reducing the quality and quantity.
When being a doctor means no more personal income than some other career choice, requiring many years less training, why would a bright young college student consider the medical field?
Especially when it looks like being on welfare may pay more (in the long run) than spending hundreds of thousands of dollars and a dozen years training to be a doctor?
So, in about ten years, when we all health care insurance out the wazoo but absolutely no doctors to spend it on …. what then? Grab your own crotch, cough and wonder what the heck it means.
I have been puzzling over what I perceive as the growing loss of public interest in the Benghazi debacle in which an American ambassador and three others lost their lives and the former Secretary of State in a pique of anger over questions about the event said, “What difference does it make?”
We are developing the memory and attention span of fungus.
“We are the people we have been waiting for,” President Obama said during his 2008 campaign. I hope not. The sheer novelty of electing the first black President was sufficient to get him elected. That was just over four years ago and the novelty is gone. All that remains are the lies and an economy in disrepair.
The reality of Obamacare and other elements of the President’s agenda are beginning to bite, but the bulk of Americans are now conditioned to live in the present, ignore even the recent past, and regard the future as chaos. They only know what is occurring to themselves today. Who can or even will plan for the future when you have credit cards?
No reports yet that (THHO)Obama peed his panties, but you know he did.
“Lowery said that when he was a young militant, he used to say all white folks were going to hell,” the Monroe County Reporter (Ga.) says in covering a rally in Forsyth, Georgia. “Then he mellowed and just said most of them were. Now, he said, he is back to where he was.”
Note also that this is the guy that Obama awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2009 – about the same time that the Euro-commies awared Obama the “pEace prize”.
There’s two honors that will never be honorable again.
Without a doubt, most citizens have no idea what their rights are or how much authority law enforcement does NOT have.
But here we have a law enforcement officer that
1 – doesn’t know the boundaries of his authority …. or
2 – is used to casually overstepping his authority due to the ignorant complacency of the people …. or
3 – has a big wide bully streak.
I think it’s number two.
From the comments:
Biden is too stupid to even comprehend the fact that he is lying. I think he’s delusional, he sincerely believes the idiocy he’s spewing. He’s not doing this as comic relief from the absolutely traitorous actions the kenyan is taking. I sincerely believe he is an incompetent. He’s been doing this his entire career. From plagiarizing Neil Kinnock to the remark made at Dunkin Donuts to this possible evidence of dementia.
A Barack Obama who will never face the voters again doesn’t have to worry about public opinion.
Does a candidate who won re-election with just less than 51 percent of the vote and who has adopted a second-term agenda that he never talked about during the campaign really have a “mandate”? Hardly. Certainly not a mandate for the radical changes that he has in store for Americans. Indeed, the Republican members of Congress have a mandate to stop him.
I love to dismiss it as crazy. People of every generation have thought it was the beginning of the end times. I scoff it off, and then it happens again. I turn on the tube and find out the Ruskies were flying long range fighters around Guam during the exact time that our man-boy president lectured us, I mean gave the State of the Union address. Just in case you don’t know, Guam is ours. It’s an American territory. The Russian fighters are capable of carrying 200 kiloton nuclear bombs with a range of 1800 miles.
Why would they do that during Big O’s speech?
The nexus between green myth and a pro-alarmist mass media committed to falling for, and publicizing, them is plain enough. Which brings us to the big daddy in our age: the myth of still attempting to proclaim a ‘science consensus’ when it comes to anthropogenic global warming (AGW).
Today green policies are pushing hundreds of thousands into fuel poverty. Mostly only the relatively rich can afford to buy electric cars, private wind turbines or solar panels. Yet they have no compunction in claiming tax breaks and public grants – paid for by society’s poorest through their energy bills. How many pious green moralists grasp who is being burdened to pay for their ‘quaint’ life accessories?
As it turns out, even what we have been sold as a climate science “consensus” per se is a myth. In truth, public-money-grubbing researchers, green social engineers, politicized UN bureaucrats and corrupt data fiddlers apart, it has always been thus. Just as the 28-Gate scandal eventually revealed the 28 ‘experts’ that advised the BBC to pin its AGW colours to the alarmist mast was nothing but a green lobby group, so the alleged climate consensus looks increasingly, er…’fracked’.
