Unintended Consequences?

If you know anyone who is misinformed enough to support so-called “universal background checks”, please show them this article. Thankfully, this District Attorney in Colorado understands the folly of prosecuting law-abiding people.

» Colorado DA Refuses to Prosecute Flood Victims for Private Firearm Transfers

Back in February and March, NRA-ILA warned that Colorado’s House Bill 1229, criminalizing the private transfer of firearms, was overbroad, and would unduly burden and ensnare law-abiding citizens. Lo and behold, less than seven months after Gov. Hickenlooper signed HB 1229, some victims of September’s devastating floods are fearful of being prosecuted under the new law.

According to an article published in the Greeley Tribune of Greeley, Colo., residents of Weld County, Colo. contacted Weld District Attorney Ken Buck with concerns that if they were to store their firearms with family or friends while cleaning or rebuilding their flood ravaged homes they could face prosecution for an illegal firearms transfer. While the new statute contains very limited exceptions for things like “bona fide gift[s] between immediate family members,” it does not exempt the temporary transfer of a firearm for safekeeping at someone else’s property.

Confiscation for “safe storage” by certain law enforcement was the plan. It doesn’t say that in the article, but you know as well as I and anybody that’s paid attention to leftist tactics – that was the plan.

To assuage the fears of his constituents, in a September 30th press release, Buck announced that he will not prosecute anyone experiencing such hardship. Buck is quoted in the press release as stating, “It would be unconscionable to require those affected by the floodwaters to obtain a background check… And it would be equally unconscionable to prosecute them under these circumstances. This is an example of the consequences of laws that are overbroad and not well thought out and illustrates how such laws can harm residents’ rights.”

On the same date, Buck sent a letter to the police chiefs of Weld County and Weld Sheriff John Cooke, alerting them to his position. The letter makes clear to the law enforcement agencies, “the District Attorney’s Office will not accept for prosecution any allegation that an individual failed to obtain a background check prior to transferring a firearm under these emergency circumstances.” In response, Sheriff Cooke, who has joined with 54 other Sheriffs in a lawsuit challenging Colorado’s new gun laws, told the Greeley Tribune regarding the flood victims, “They want to get (their guns), and they’re going to give them to a friend, and to think that Colorado law just made those people criminals by giving them to a friend without getting a background check victimizes them all over again… It’s just callous and wrong.”

» DEMOCRATS TO AMERICA: WE OWN THE GOVERNMENT!

Responding to the people’s will, House Republicans first voted to fund all of government — except Obamacare. Obama refused to negotiate and Senate Democrats refused to pass it.

Then the Republicans voted to fully fund the government, but merely delay the implementation of Obamacare for one year. Obama refused to negotiate and Senate Democrats refused to pass it.

Finally, the Republicans voted to fully fund the government, but added a requirement that everyone live under Obamacare. No more special waivers for Congress and their staff, and no waivers for big business without the same waivers for individuals.

Obama refused to negotiate and Senate Democrats refused to pass it. So as you can see, Republicans are the big holdup here.

If you are in the minority of Americans not already unalterably opposed to Obamacare, keep in mind that the only reason the government is shut down right now is that Democrats refuse to fund the government if they are required to live under Obamacare.

» Maryland Says It Has 326 Enrollees in Health Exchange

The state of Maryland says it has thousands of people interested in buying health insurance on its new state-run exchange, but only 326 so far have actually enrolled in new coverage.
…. The state has about 600,000 people without health insurance, according to the Census Bureau

» Smoking gun exposed- D.C. police covers up giving Feinstein illegal ‘assault weapons’

Washington Metropolitan Police Chief Cathy L. Lanier seems to think that gun-control laws don’t apply to the liberal elite. The police chief helped Sen. Dianne Feinstein acquire “assault weapons,” which are illegal to possess in the District, for a news conference early this year to promote a ban on these firearms, then tried to cover up the police involvement.
Now, a response to a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request reveals Chief Lanier’s shocking willingness to bend the rules for partisan and ideological purposes.

In other (and more to the point) words, liberals do not consider themselves subject to the tyrannical laws they impose on the rest of us. Feinstein and the police chief both broke gun-control laws that were passed by their liberal D.C. brethren – in order to get more gun-control laws passed nationwide that they could personally ignore.

Cmdr. Williams emailed Mr. Mentzer to put a “bug” in his ear that the police would “prefer that no mention of the fact that the weapons came from D.C. or were recovered by MPDC in the official language or speeches.” Mr. Mentzer replied, “By not mentioning where the weapons came from, we open ourselves up to the same charge against David Gregory.”
He was referring to the anchor of NBC’s “Meet the Press,” who knowingly procured an illegal 30-round magazine in the District as a stunt for his TV show, but was not charged.

The police stonewalling and cover-up are so that the public doesn’t find out that Chief Lanier enforces laws differently in the District, depending on whether you are a powerful liberal who opposes Second Amendment rights, like Mr. Gregory and Mrs. Feinstein, or an average American.

» The Obama Blockade

The barricades around the Lincoln Memorial and the WW2 Memorial, the traffic cones blocking the view of Mt. Rushmore and the sawhorses around Old Faithful are no Berlin Blockade, but they come out of the same meanness of spirit and the same motives.

The petty harassment extended to a 24-hour blockade of an inn that had tried to stay open and rangers arriving to block Old Faithful every time it erupted. There are few moments that sum up the meanness of spirit of the Obama Blockade as well as a park ranger angrily telling senior citizens to get back on the bus and stop taking photos because they are engaging in forbidden “recreating”.

The Obama Blockade has no valid justification. Like the Berlin Blockade, it is about power and control.
….
The petty harassment of the Obama Blockade is a sign of impotence.

Imagine all your credit cards are maxed out, and you struggle to just make the minimum interest payments. Then, you get a notice from the banks stating that their interest rates are going up three percent. Or, five. Maybe seven. You look at your household budget for what can be cut. Seeing all the cuts are painful, you photocopy money. You go to jail – unless you’re the Fed.

the gunge — defined as any atmospheric obstruction that limits visibility for storm-spotting — is thick in the old media, with its fog of updates on the government shutdown. The constant drizzle of dueling talking heads in the debt-ceiling debate. The low hanging cloud over the huge, new, welfare program that comes at the worst possible time – not that there’s a good time for Obamacare.

It’s all gunge, and the media is full of it.

But it doesn’t matter to the Black Swan. She is Arithmetic. Impassionate, indifferent, apolitical stone-hearted Arithmetic. She is here; she is coming.

» Dan Pfeiffer Uses ‘N’ Word

“also a much nigger factor on the right”

As if Dan Pfeiffer doesn’t say and do enough things to deserve a scarlet alphabet, shall we jump on him with all fours over an obvious mistype?
Come on, people. Look down … at your keyboard. The ‘N’ is right beside the ‘B’.
This dog don’t hunt.

Let’s not indulge in the same race card bullshit that the Left does in their sleep.

However, there are a couple of points to be made from the fact that this incident made some headlines. The most obvious is that if it had been a rightwinger who mistyped the word ‘bigger’ with an ‘n’ the uproar would be deafening; Lefties would be battering his front door with Al Sharpton’s head. Chris Matthews and Bill Mahr would be in round #745 of a screaming contest.

The stock market would have crashed over the severe shortage of paper mache as howling moonbats stomped the streets with thousands of gigantic paper mache racist puppets demanding the death of the tweeter of n-word.

Sam Jackson and Chris Rock would be in front of a camera somewhere saying something absolutely stupid, and idiot congress-critters making speeches using words that don’t exist.

» Churchill Bust to Reappear . . . in the Capitol

In what would appear to be a direct rebuff to President Obama’s decision to remove a bust of Winston Churchill from the Oval Office, the House of Representatives will install a newly donated bust of the hallowed British statesman in the Capitol.

On January 20, 2009, his first day on the job, Obama unceremoniously removed a bust of Churchill from the Oval Office and sent it up the street in Washington to the British embassy.

» Obama as Chaos

when the president takes up a line of argument against his opponents, it cannot really be taken seriously — not just because it is usually not factual, but also because it always contradicts positions that Obama himself has taken earlier or things he has previously asserted. Whom to believe — Obama 1.0, Obama 2.0, or Obama 3.0?

In short, whenever the president prefaces a sweeping statement with one of his many emphatics — “make no mistake about it,” “I’m not making this up,” “in point of fact,” “let me be perfectly clear” — we know that the reverse is always true. For Obama, how something is said matters far more than what is said. If he stumbles, as is his wont, through an un-teleprompted remark that on rare occasions can be mostly accurate, that is a serious lapse; if, more frequently, he mellifluously asserts a teleprompted falsehood, there is little worry. The result is not so much untruth, lies, or distortions, as virtual chaos. Is what he says untrue, contradictory of what he said or did earlier, or just nonsensical?

» The Oceans are Not More Acidic Now Than in the Past 300 Million Years

Fiona Harvey’s article … misrepresents the scientific literature. This error has propagated across the Twittersphere.

‘The oceans are more acidic now than they have been for at least 300m years, due to carbon dioxide emissions from burning fossil fuels, and a mass extinction of key species may already be almost inevitable as a result, leading marine scientists warned on Thursday.

… there does not seem to be a single ‘State of the Ocean Report‘ but a series of papers in a special issue of Marine Pollution Bulletin

This is an account of yet another climate alarm lie. The author doesn’t use the words lie or liar … I do.
You should read it for yourself and see what conclusions you draw from it. Here’s my take away: Fiona Harvey has no qualms about twisting the crap out of other people’s words to create a new facet to the globalZ-warmZ hoax. She cherry-picked from one section of ‘a report’ that was actually a series of papers and zeroed in on one phrase that she subsequently misrepresented:

‘the present day carbon perturbation and the concurrent ocean acidification is unprecedented in the Earth’s history and occurring much faster than at any time in the past 55 million years

The original paper suggested that the rate of ocean acidification is unprecedented, not the acidity of the ocean. In fact, the oceans are not acidic. In fact, the oceans are more alkaline than they have been in millions of years.
But those little tidbits were left out of Harvey’s reporting because it suited her purpose, which was to scare the living crap out of people that wouldn’t know better … just doing her part in the leftist program to raise future generations of kids to be taught that the oceans are bubbling with acid and it’s all the fault of the evil capitalists.
Her lie was picked up and broadcast across the acidic globe via Twitter liberals too stupid to verify.

Note that the tweet was repeated by the monthly journal Nature Geoscience who, after having the facts rammed up their Geonethers issued a mea culpa

Tracing a problematic interpretation across the internet …. Also, oops for our role in its propogation

At least, in the near future when you get in an argument with some greenie bonehead moonbat who claims the oceans are turning into acid … you know where to go to get the facts that will not fit up there nethers … and ram them anyway.

» LA Times Responds to NewsBusters

… anthropogenic global warming skeptics don’t all believe manmade carbon dioxide has no connection to the rise in temperatures since 1850. Many just believe it’s negligible and that other factors are far more important.

However, there certainly are many credible “scientists with advanced degrees” that believe carbon dioxide is not at all connected to the recent rise in temperatures.

In fact, many believe that atmospheric carbon dioxide levels lag temperature rises, meaning that such levels increase subsequent to warmer temperatures.

I’m sure many of the over 31,000 scientists that signed a petition claiming “There is no convincing scientific evidence that human release of carbon dioxide, methane, or other greenhouse gasses is causing or will, in the foreseeable future, cause catastrophic heating of the Earth’s atmosphere and disruption of the Earth’s climate” feel this way.

» A MILLION YEARS OF CLIMATE CHANGE WITHOUT HUMANS AND CO2

“Okay, here’s the bombshell. The volcanic eruption in Iceland ,
… Since its first spewing of volcanic ash has, in just FOUR DAYS, NEGATED EVERY SINGLE EFFORT you have made in the past five years to control CO2 emissions on our planet – all of you.
Of course, you know about this evil carbon dioxide that we are trying to suppress – it’s that vital chemical compound that every plant requires to live and grow and to synthesize into oxygen for us humans and all animal life.
I know….it’s very disheartening to realize that all of the carbon emission savings you have accomplished while suffering the inconvenience and expense of driving Prius hybrids, buying fabric grocery bags, sitting up till midnight to finish your kids’ “The Green Revolution” science project, throwing out all of your non-green cleaning supplies, using only two squares of toilet paper, putting a brick in your toilet tank reservoir, selling your SUV and speedboat, vacationing at home instead of abroad, nearly getting hit every day on your bicycle, replacing all of your 50 cent light bulbs with $10.00 light bulbs…..well, all of those things you have done have all gone down the tubes in just four days.
The volcanic ash emitted into the Earth’s atmosphere in just four days – yes, FOUR DAYS – by that volcano in Iceland has totally erased every single effort you have made to reduce the evil beast, carbon. And there are around 200 active volcanoes on the planet spewing out this crud at any one time – EVERY DAY.
I don’t really want to rain on your parade too much, but I should mention that when the volcano Mt. Pinatubo erupted in the Philippines in 1991, it spewed out more greenhouse gases into the atmosphere than the entire human race had emitted in all its years on earth.

» Common Core assignment makes sixth-graders SCRAP Bill of Rights amendments

The assignment’s instructions, which include hideous grammatical errors such as the use of the plural pronouns “they” and “their” to refer to the singular noun “government,” tell students that “the government of United States is currently revisiting” the first 10 amendments to the U.S. Constitution.

Unknown federal officials “have determined” that the Bill of Rights “is outdated and may not remain in its current form any longer,” the instructions say.

Dont Forget, it’s always for the kids.

» Judge won’t order striking Boston bus drivers back to work

Drivers are complaining about a new GPS system that tracks their every move in the buses, especially a new app called “Where’s My Bus” popular with parents.

Because it’s not any of the school’s business nor the parents where the bus is or what it’s doing – or not doing.

And for also being required to check in with a supervisor to pick up their bus keys every morning, a new policy set up so supervisors can check the physical condition of every driver.

Because it’s not any of the school’s business nor the parents whether the drivers of their children’s buses are drunk, on drugs or just plain ole retarded.

The drivers are also upset because they’ve been asked to sign releases so officials can scour their driving records. Union officials have told drivers not to sign the documents.

Because it’s not any of the school’s business nor the parents whether or not the drivers are capable of driving safely.

Look at the strike sign being held in the photo: Union Busting and Oppression?

I reckon that means that verification of qualifications, sobriety and actual driving skills are simply means to break and oppress unions rather than protecting the children. Yup, cause all you have to do to protect the children is make sure there’s no gun on the same continent as the school.

Oh, and the sign also says From Boston to Palestine …. good luck making the connections of logic on that.
